Review the floor plan of your new home. Sketch in and number your furnishings the way you want them to be arranged in each room. Then tag the furniture pieces to correspond with the numbers on the floor plan. That way, the movers know where to put each piece of furniture. It’s better to make those decisions ahead of time, so our movers can carry the heavy pieces directly to the rooms in which they’ll live. Color coordinate or label all other boxes to ensure they are placed in the correct room or area.
Get ready for the big move by ensuring pets will not be in the way of the loading/unloading process and verifying all utilities have been disconnected in your old home and connected in your new home. Make sure mail will be forwarded to your new address and keep all of your important documents in one location, so they’ll be accessible during your transition.
Color code or label where your heaviest pieces will go. Remove clothing drawers and wrap them in plastic wrap. This will save you from having to reorganize when you unpack. Disassemble furniture that is too large to fit through doorways, staircases or elevators.
